Generation One

1Miles1 I'anson; baptized 2 August 1730 at St Michael & All Angels Church, Spennithornel, NRY, ENG; m. Mary Harrison 24 November 1764 at St Michael & All Angels Church, Spennithornel, NRY, ENG (By License); d. 1802 at Morris, NJ, USA.  He was a Farmer. He was also known as Ianson and Ainson in USA. He and his family emigrated in 1774 sailing from the port of Hull aboard the "Albion", to  Fort Cumberland, Nova Scotia, arriving May 6th 1774.  His name was written as AINSON in the passenger list.  By 1780 he was living in New Jersey where his son, John, was born.  He left a will on 23 April 1802 at Morris Co., NJ, USA.

The seven children of Miles1 I'anson and Mary Harrison were as follows

  • William I'Anson; baptized 9 June 1765 at St Michael & All Angels Church, Spennithornel, NRY, ENG; bur. 11 July 1765 at St Michael & All Angels Church, Spennithornel, NRY, ENG (age 1 month). 
  • ii. John2 I'Anson; baptized 4 May 1766 at St Michael & All Angels Church, Spennithornel, NRY, ENG; bur. 4 July 1766 at St Michael & All Angels Church, Spennithornel, NRY, ENG (age 2 months).
  • iii. Miles I'Anson; (variations: Janson, Ianson, Anson, Ainson); baptized 29 November 1767 at St Michael & All Angels Church, Spennithornel, NRY, ENG; bur. after 24 May 1856 at Baptist Cemetery, Mount Freedom, Morris, NJ, USA (date of death given as 24 May 1856 - different from registered record of death); d. 30 May 1856 at Randolph Township, Morris, NJ, USA, at age 88.  He was a Farmer. He appeared on the census of 1793 at Mendham Township, Morris, NJ, USA - census of males in Mendham eligible for Militia (age 18-45)). He applied for a Tavern Liicense in Morris Co. - (could possibly have been his father, also Miles) in 1793 at Mendham Twp, Morris, NJ, USA. In 1793, he was also known asMiles Anson Jr. He was bequeathed 1/3 of the Plantation of Miles I'Anson at Mendham, shared with brothers John and Robert in 1802 at Morris Co., NJ, USA.  Property of Miles Ainson, 80 acres valued at $16, 4 horses, 2 cattle. State and county tax=$2.66 in 1806 at Randolph Twp, Morris, NJ, USA. In 1806, he was also known as Miles Ainson on tax records. He appeared on the census of 1830 at Morris, NJ, USA (cited in NJ Census Index 1830 - p.006). He had real estate valued at $3000 in 1850. He appeared on the census of 13 September 1850 at Morris Co., NJ, USA (with brother John) aged 70, born N .J.  (described as single).
  • iv. Thomas I'Anson, b. 18 October 1770 at St Michael & All Angels Church, Spennithornel, NRY, ENG; m. Keziah Meeker.
  • v. Mary I'Anson; baptized 20 January 1773 at St Michael & All Angels Church, Spennithornel, NRY, ENG (Last child born in England to Miles and Mary); m. Charles Brown 11 September 1824 at Presbyterian Church, Mount Freedom, Morris, NJ, USA.  She was also known as Mary Ianson in USA. She inherited $200 from her brother John Ianson: " to Mary Brown widow of Charlie Brown, deceased" on 22 February 1862. 
  • vi. John Ianson; born c.1780 at NJ, USA (First child born in USA to Miles and Mary); bur. after 8 July 1861 at Baptist Cemetery, Mount Freedom, Morris, NJ, USA (date of death differs from that registered); d. 22 February 1862 at Morris County, NJ, USA.  He was a Farmer. He inherited 1/3 portion of the estate of father Miles I'Anson in Mendham Township NJ, together with his brothers Miles and Robert in 1802. The property of John Ainson, 60 acres valued at $9; and one horse. State and County Tax $1.56 in 1806 at Randolph Twp, Morris, NJ, USA. He appeared on the census of 13 September 1850 at Morris Co., NJ, USA described as Farmer, single, age 70; living with brother Miles. He left a will on 4 March 1862 at Morris Co, NJ, USA with sums bequeathed to: Mary Brown widow of Charie Brown; Ann Amanda Cramer, dau. of Aaron Cramer; Joseph & Henry Ianson, children of Thomas Ianson; Lewis Miles Low (Love?) grandson of Miles Ianson; Nancy wife of Charles Skellinger, dau. of John H. Ianson; Nancy wife of Silas C.Clark; Charles K. Ianson, Silas C. Ianson & Sarah wife of Jaby V.P.Conway, children of Miles Ianson deceased.
  • vii.Robert Ianson; baptized circa 1781 at NJ, USA; d. before 15 October 1804 at Morris, NJ, USA; m. Sophia (--?--) before Oct 1804 
Generation Two

4Thomas2 I'Anson (Miles1I'anson); (Anson, Janson, Ianson in USA records); baptized 18 October 1770 at St Michael & All Angels Church, Spennithornel, NRY, ENG; m. Keziah Meeker circa 1793 at NJ, USA; d. before December 1848 
(died intestate. Surrogate's Divisions Book A record that he and his wife Keziah were both deceased, intestate. Petition for division was made by their children "John H. Janson, Miles Janson Jr, John Janson, Aaron Cramer, and Nancy, wife of Silas Clark." Other heirs were "Ann Amanda Cramer, daughter of Maria Janson, deceased, wife of Aaron Cramer; Joseph and Henry Janson, sons of Thomas Janson, deceased. The last mentioned Thomas and Maria were the children of Thomas and Kesiah Janson, deceased."  Ann Amanda, Joseph and Henry were all minors under 21, no guardians. Silas C. Clark and Nancy conveyed their share to John H.Janson and John Janson.  The first tract had been conveyed to Thomas and Kesiah Janson 23 Jan 1826 by Miles Janson Jr., it was located on the road from Calais to Black River.  The second lot had been conveyed by Joseph Meeker to Kesiah Janson on 1 June 1798, corner lot to which Thomas Janson had purchased of said Meeker.

He appeared on the census of 1793 at Mendham Township, Morris, NJ, USA (Militia of Mendham Township: Census of all eligible males betw. 18 and 45 to determine man-power potential and organise into militia bodies). He inherited $250.00 by his father Miles I'Anson of Mendham Township, to be paid out three years after his father's death in 1802 at Morris Co., NJ, USA. In1806, he was also known as Thomas Ainson on tax records. Property of Thomas Ainson, 80 acres ($16), 2 horses, 2 cattle, State and County Tax=$1.88 in 1806 at Randolph Twp, Morris, NJ, USA. He appeared on the census of 1830 at Morris, NJ, USA (cited in NJ Census Index 1840 p.006).

  • 10 ii. John Harrison Ianson; b. 19 April 1794 at Mount Freedom, Morris, NJ, USA; m. Sarah Searing 11 February 1819 at Presbyterian Church, Mount Freedom, Randolph Twp, Morris, NJ, USA; m. Jane Pitney 7 December 1849 at Mount Freedom, Morris, NJ, USA; d. 1 March 1881 at Mount Freedom, Morris, NJ, USA, at age 86.  He appeared on the census of 1830 at Morris, NJ, USA (cited in NJ Census Index 1830 - p.006). He was chosen, with Ebenezer N.Clark and Martin L. Hulbert, as additional trustees for the purpose of disposing of Mt Freedom Baptist Church. (written by Silas C.Clark J.P on 28 January 1847 at Baptist Church, Mount Freedom, Morris, NJ, USA. He appeared on the census of 13 September 1850 at Morris Co., NJ, USA (John H. Ianson age 56, Farmer, $1200 + Jane, age 40). He owned a 10 acre lot of land in Mt Freedom in 1881. He left a will on 12 March 1881 at Morris Co., NJ, USA ("Being of sound and disposing mind although weak in body . . .to my grandson William Harrison Skellinger a certain 10 acre lot of land . . . The rest and residue . . . to my daughter Nancy C. Skellinger . . "). Inventory list of house contents valued at $ 447 on 12 March 1881 at Morris Co, NJ, USA.
  • 11 iii. Joseph Ianson; m. Phebe Ann Pierson; b. after 1795 at Morris Co., NJ, USA.  He appeared on the census of 1850 at Mendham, Morris, NJ, USA (cited in NJ Census Index 1850). In 1850, he was also known as Joseph Anson. He inherited $100 from his uncle, John Ianson on 22 February 1862.
  • 12 iv. Henry Ianson; b. after 1795 at NJ, USA. 

  • He appeared on the census of 1850 at Randolph, Morris, NJ, USA (cited in NJ Census Index 1850 under "ANSON"). In 1850, he was also known as Henry Anson. He inherited $100 from his uncle, John Ianson on 22 February 1862.
  • + 13 v. Miles I'Anson Jr., b. circa 1800 at NJ, USA; m. Ann Eliza King.
  • 14 vi. Nancy Ianson; b. circa 1802 at NJ, USA; m. Silas Clark 28 January 1821 at Morris, NJ, USA.  She appeared on the census of 1850 at Morris Co., NJ, USA (Silas C.Clark, age 48, Clerk ; Nancy; age 47, wife; Abigail; age 18; Sarah E. age 16; Silas H; age 13; Ann J. age 11; Isaac age 8; Nancy A. age 5). She inherited from uncle John Ianson: 1/3 part of remainder of his estate after foregoing legacies (or to her heirs share and share alike in the event of her death) on 22 February 1862.
  • 15 vii. Maria Ianson; b. before 1816 at Mount Freedom, Morris, NJ, USA; baptized 3 January 1830 at Presbyterian Church, Mt Freedom, Randoph Twp, Morris, NJ, USA (adult baptism); m. Aaron Cramer 20 June 1836 at Morris, NJ, USA; d. before 1848 (already deceased according to Orphans Court Records 1848).  In 1830, she was also known as Mariah Ianson in church record transcripts. In 1836, she was also known as Marian Ianson in church record transcripts.
7. Robert Ianson; baptized circa 1781 at NJ, USA; d. before 15 October 1804 at Morris, NJ, USA; m. Sophia (--?--) before Oct 1804 (named in Orphan's Court Records, Book A beginning 1804: A:49,51).
He inherited 1/3 of the plantation of Miles I'Anson in Mendham, shared with brothers Miles and John in 1802 at Morris Co., NJ, USA. He left a will on 15 October 1804 at Surrogate's Office, Morris, NJ, USA (Abstract: "wife (unnamed), bed and bedding, one cow and $250 in lieu of her dower. Mother, Mary Anson, $50. Brother, John Anson, $50. Residue of real and personal estate to my child or children if any hereafter, if not, then the residue to be divided between my three brothers, Miles, Thomas and John Anson." Executors-Thomas Whallon and Elias Briant. Witnesses - Samuel Moore, Phebe Briant, Abraham Day Jr. Proved Nov. 3rd 1804. [Recorded Book A of Wills, p.30]

The one child of Robert Ianson and Sophia was as follows:

Generation Three

13Miles3 I'Anson Jr. (Thomas2, Miles1I'anson); b. circa 1800 at NJ, USA; m. Ann Eliza King 18 March 1823 at Mount Freedom, Morris, NJ, USA; d. before 1862.  He was a Farmer. He appeared on the census of 1830 at Morris, NJ, USA (cited in NJ Census Index 1830 - p.006). As of 1830, he was also known as Miles Janson Jr. He appeared on the census of 1850 at Morris Co., NJ, USA (Miles Ianson Jr. aged 50 Farmer, born New Jersey; Ann E. Ianson aged 46, born NJ; Silas C. Ianson aged 16 born NJ; Sarah E. Ianson aged 13 born NJ).  Will of John I'Anson 1862, Morris, NJ names Charles K. I'Anson, Silas C. I'Anson and Sarah Conway, children of Miles, for a small share inhis estate. Miles must by then have died in 1862.

The four children of Miles3 I'Anson Jr. and Ann Eliza King were as follows: 

  • 16 i. Charles K.4 I'Anson; b. after 18 March 1823 at Morris Co., NJ, USA.
  • 17 ii. Silas E. I'Anson; b. circa 1834 at Morris Co. NJ, USA;  m. Eliza A.B. Stewart 16 December 1856 at Presbyterian Church, Mount Freedom, Randolphe Twp, Morris, NJ, USA (transcripts name them Silas C. and Elizabeth B).  He appeared on the census of 1850 at Morris Co., NJ, USA.
  • 18 iii. Sarah E. I'Anson; b. circa 1837 at Morris Co NJ, USA.  Probable first marriage to a Mr Love (Lowe?) with a child Lewis Miles Love (b. after 1841).  Possible second marriage to Jaby V.P. Conway. She appeared on the census of 1850 at Morris Co., NJ, USA.
  • 19 iv. Miles I'Anson; b. 21 October 1845; bur. 25 January 1846 at Presbyterian Cemetery, Mount Freedom, Morris, NJ, USA ("aged three months and four days").
